"You just missed it."
Time is never right
It either leaves too early
Or arrives too late
You stand on the platform
Waiting for a train to take you
Far and far and far away
It comes when you are at home
You see the train in the distance
See it slowing down to a stop
You jam a spoonful of cereal into your mouth
You stumble into your shoes
You fumble with the keys
You trip down the stairs
You fall flat on your face
You get up and see the train
It is all in your head
Just forget about it
Move on and move forward
You can do it
You can catch the train
Yes I can
Then you get to the steps of the station
Everyone is looking at you
A wild frenzy in your eyes
A mad sway in your legs
An unbuttoned shirt and pants that are too big
Mismatched shoes and patches of hair sticking out
Sticking out like they want to be free
Want to escape
Want to be anywhere but on the top of your head
You run up the stairs and hear a hum
The train has not left yet
The train is still here
The train has taken its passengers
The train has closed its doors
The train has begun to move on the tracks
The train has left
Here you are again
Standing on the same platform
Missing the same train
You look at a reflection of yourself in the glass
You wonder where you went wrong
What you missed
Where all your luck went
Maybe you never had any
Maybe time is never right
Time is just another train
A train we take and travel
A train we miss and long for
A train to carry you further away
And once you reach that place
You will be further and further
Away again
